Council Roles & Responsibilities

The Town Council is Responsible for...

Raising money through local council tax (known as the precept)
Looking after community buildings and assets including the Market House, The Roundhouse and the Cemetery.
Management of the Donald Pither Memorial Ground Trust incorporating the Field and Pavillion.
Hiring out the Shambles, Undercroft, Cobbles & Assembly Room for events, weddings, parties and meetings.
Providing and maintaining Play area equipment
Looking after the public toilets and bus shelters
Maintaining the Horse Pond & War Memorial
Providing grants to help local organisations.
Providing views on Planning applications
Acting as the lead body on the Neighbourhood Plan
Undertaking projects to benefit the local community such as Fairfield, The Pavillion, working with Ansford Parish Council.
Providing volunteer run tourist & Community Information Point for Events, Services and Venues.
