The Memorial Field was given to the Parish of Castle Cary by John Pither in memory of his son, Donald (Donald Steven Pither) who died in 1944 aged 26. Donald had been an accomplished sportsman, scoring 1400 runs in 1938 when aged 20. (Castle Cary & Ansford Time to Reflect page 137)
